New Study Shows People with Higher Cholesterol Live Longer than People …
Mar 19, 2025Based on their LDL cholesterol (“bad” cholesterol) measurements, the participants were divided into two groups: one group had cholesterol levels below 130 mg/dL and the other had cholesterol levels at or above 130 mg/dL. Notably, an LDL cholesterol level of 130 mg/dL is considered mildly high while 100 mg/dL is considered healthy.

The LDL paradox: Higher LDL-Cholesterol is Associated with Greater …
we found that elderly people with high Low-Density-Lipo-protein Cholesterol (LDL-C) live just as long as or longer than people with low LDL-C. Since then, many similar follow-up studies including both patients and healthy people of all ages have been published. We have therefore provided here an update to our prior review.

Story at-a-glance
Cholesterol, the soft, waxy substance found in every cell in your body, is used to produce several of your body’s vital functions, including hormones and vitamin D. High cholesterol is now recognized for its link to longer life
Faulty science says your total cholesterol is not a gauge of your heart disease risk, because when your levels are measured, elevated levels called triglycerides are also taken into account
Found in every cell of your body, cholesterol is used to produce several of your body’s vital functions, including those that involve hormones and vitamin D
Studies show a contrary or inverse link between all-cause mortality and total cholesterol levels; in other words, mortality is highest when your cholesterol is low, without exception
Considering the false information on cholesterol, continued prescriptions for statins, and the potentially devastating side effects they cause, it’s clear why researchers are calling for a paradigm shift in the way cholesterol is treated.

People with Higher cholesterol level live longer
Studies need to determine exactly what is the normal cholesterol level in the blood. But if your total cholesterol is between 200 to 250, you’re much more likely to live a longer and healthier life.
________

As of 2015, approximately 25% of adults over the age of 45 are on statin drugs.
What we will look at today is what do the studies say vs. what the drug companies that sell them say.  Statins do lower cholesterol for sure. But does that mean you are now better off? If you read the links below I think you will agree that the evidence doesn’t support wellness! One of the first studies that pop up is how statins deplete your Coq10. Which comes right from the Merck manual. A doctor friend of mine said he was concerned as many of the doctors he worked with that prescribed statins never told their patients to take Coq10 along with the statin.

Statins work by blocking a liver enzyme known for making cholesterol. Yes, we do make our own cholesterol!  It is very necessary for our brain and producing our hormones, and even estrogen and testosterone.

No. 22 — Ditch the Cholesterol Myth

After decades of research failed to demonstrate a correlation between dietary cholesterol and heart disease, the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans29,30 finally admitted that “cholesterol is not considered a nutrient of concern for overconsumption.”

A scientific review31 published in the Expert Review of Clinical Pharmacology in 2018 also dismissed many long-held myths about cholesterol and the benefit of lowering it.

The paper presents substantial evidence that total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels are not an indication of heart disease risk, and that statin treatment is of “doubtful benefit” as a form of primary prevention for this reason.

As a general rule, cholesterol-lowering drugs are not required or prudent for the majority of people — especially if both high cholesterol and longevity run in your family.

For more information about cholesterol and what the different levels mean, take a look at the infographic below. You can also learn more about the benefits of cholesterol and why you don’t want your level to be too low in “Why Your Doctor Is Wrong About Cholesterol,” posted in March 2022.

So if the doctor wants to put you on a statin, don’t be afraid to speak up and say you have never seen a study showing people living longer due to just having lower cholesterol numbers.
Plus there are proven studies on African mango for lowering LDL and triglycerides while raising and your HDL cholesterol.  Without so many side effects.

Don’t forget you can always choose a doctor that is willing to listen to his or her patient. If he or she prescribes you a statin anyway and you decide to take it and your cholesterol gets lower you may think you are getting healthier. Not so fast! There is much more to the equation than LDL numbers. Like density, body inflammation and so on.     Things your doctor should consider are hs-C-reactive protein, particle sizes of the LDL cholesterol.  The bottom line is when you take in all of the possible side effects, will you live longer or better? The following links below by experts seem to say otherwise.

Here are just some of the common side effects for people on higher amounts and longer terms of statin drugs.
#1 Neuropathy.
#2 Cataracts.
#3 Sexual dysfunction.
#4 Memory loss
