GERD Treated Naturally

By Dr. Mercola

Acid reflux is an extremely common health problem, affecting as many as 50 percent of Americans. Other terms used for this condition are gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or peptic ulcer disease.

The hallmark symptom of acid reflux is “heartburn”—a burning sensation behind your breastbone that sometimes travels up your throat. In some cases, this pain can be severe enough to be mistaken for a heart attack.

Conventionally, acid reflux is thought to be caused by excessive amounts of acid in your stomach, which is why acid-blocking drugs are typically prescribed or recommended.

This is a serious medical misconception that adversely affects hundreds of millions of people, as the problem usually results from having too little acid in your stomach.

What Causes Heartburn?
After food passes through your esophagus into your stomach, a muscular valve called the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) closes, preventing food or acid to move back up.

Acid reflux occurs when the LES relaxes inappropriately, allowing acid from your stomach to flow (reflux) backward into your esophagus. But it’s important to understand that acid reflux is not a disease caused by excessive acid production in your stomach; rather it’s a symptom more commonly related to:

I’m a 33yo female and have all kinds of symptoms of low stomach acid. A couple being low iron, Ferritin, low Cholesterol (both good/bad). I periodically have indigestion and heartburn. I also have other gastro issues like bloating, etc.,etc.

So, I took diluted ACV after my meal 2 nights ago and I had full indigestion and heartburn. It was awful:( I had to sleep sitting upwards. So, yesterday I took a digestive enzyme before I ate, then after I ate I took 1 HCL w/pepsin for the first time. I felt fine for a short time. Then, all of a sudden it was more difficult to breathe, felt like acid went to my sinuses and lungs, it felt as if I had something stuck in my throat and a stuffy nose. That went on all day and I ended up sleeping sitting up half the night for a second time. I feel much better today. I can breathe fine again. I eat a Whole30 based diet for a couple of months with no sugar (except a small portion of fruit here and there).

what are some common reasons this would happen? 😦

The ACV & or enzymes are to be done 15 mins. to a 1/2 hour before the meal! Please look at your last blood work, was your MCV 100?
Bloating & other gastro issues goes along with low stomach acid. So you could have candidia over growth & H-pylori. Somethings that help with that are OLE.
